Karim’s motto is:
“The other is an inexhaustible source of knowledge and discovery, to despise them is to deprive oneself of this wealth.”
Karim Amedjkouh
From the shores of the Mediterranean (North East Algeria), Karim Amedjkouh first migrated to France to pursue his university studies and then in 2007, he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
These experiences have allowed him to experience several cultures and he considers himself to be a citizen of the world. In addition, Karim wrote two Master’s theses at the Nice Sophia Antipolis University on immigration and integration in which he analyzed the roles of immigrants and associative organizations in the integration process.
Moreover, since his arrival in Canada in May 2007, he has been involved in several projects that touch on the themes of cultural diversity and the integration of Francophone immigrants. Among other things, he hosted a radio show (Divers-Cités). In addition, he has organized several intercultural evenings with the aim of creating spaces for intercultural storytelling and dialogue among immigrants and engaged members of the host culture.
From 2009 to 2017, he was a professor of History and Social Sciences. During these years, he organized several intercultural events, including intercultural days, round tables, and cultural immersion programs.
An unforgettable moment for Karim took place in August 2013 when he accompanied a group of students on an intercultural and humanitarian trip to Algeria. The three-week summer camp for children with physical and cognitive needs, provided them with an intercultural immersion experience. This experience was unforgettable for his students, and it confirmed that we must continue to build bridges and bridges to deconstruct prejudices, promote intercultural dialogues, and value living together.
Karim strongly believes in the importance of transmitting intercultural competency, an indispensable tool to build inclusive communities and attack all forms of racism.
